Not knowing them can mean a significant loss of chips. Something like not knowing that you have to give way in a roundabout and cause a massive accident. Not only do you have to learn poker, you have to know the rules. Most come from the rules of classical poker , so they are common to almost all modalities. Knowing how to play poker starts with the basic rules of poker. For example, you can not know how to upload if you do not learn the rules of how to do it and with what amount of chips. And, if you do not know the most basic poker rules , you will probably find yourself lost at the table, even if you have read a poker manual and know the poker moves, you must know the rules of Texas Hold’em poker.
The peculiarities of poker rules in live tables
Live poker is different from online poker . So you need to know the rules so you do not make mistakes. Here are some of the basic rules of live poker that have no relation to the onlin.
Misdeals, or distribution errors, are quite common in live poker, but nonexistent in online poker (link). In the rules of the Téxas Hold’em a misdeal can be that a player receives more letters than correspond to him. Or when it begins to distribute by the wrong player. It also occurs when the dealer flips one of the first two cards when dealing. If there is a misdeal, the dealer will notice. It will let the table know that you have to redistribute your hand. The dealer collects all the cards, shuffles again and deals the hand. Simple.
Sometimes, players throw their cards by mistake. Unfortunately, there’s nothing the dealer can do. Your hand is no longer valid, and you can not play until the next hand is dealt. Even if the dealer takes a player’s cards without realizing it, the player’s hand is considered dead. Depending on the variety you play, you have to know how many cards are dealt in poker, because if you have more or less cards, you can declare your hand dead.
Clue: Protect your hand!
Use a card guard if you think it’s necessary. In some poker rooms there is a betting line, keep your cards behind the line when you are playing the hand. And, always have them controlled. If you fail, you can see that your aces end up dead before you can say sub.
Act out of turn
According to the rules of the World Series of Poker (WSOP), if you act out of turn, that is, if you communicate what you are going to do before it is your turn, you will be forced to maintain that decision. If you checked, when your turn comes you will have to pass, you will not be able to pay or raise. But if any of the players who have not acted decides to bet or raise, then you will be released from the decision and you can take the one you want. But do not expect that miracle. Throwing you out of turn is somewhat more complicated. In some casinos you will eliminate your hand immediately. In others, the dealer will wait for your turn. But going forward constantly when you’re going to throw, is frowned upon because you warn the rivals of your intentions and some player may believe that they are cheating. So this is a rule that you should never break in the live game.
Two things are important :
- You give your rivals the chance to attack you, or throw themselves away, if they know your intentions before they are due, and
- It is not very correct. Your image will be bad and in addition, you can be sanctioned.
The marked cards are a problem in the live game. It can happen by accident, a little of the chocolate that you are eating marks the ace of spades. Or by the way, with a special ink a player marks some of the cards. If the dealer sees a marked card, he has to remove it from the game and notify the supervisor instantly. The card or the entire deck is changed. It is the responsibility of the dealer to inspect the cards while he handles them and the casinos habitually change the deck to avoid the marked cards. If a player locates an irregularity in the deck, he must notify the dealer. It is what you have to do.
The burnt letter
Burn a card is to remove the top card from the deck before distributing each street. So, for example, in the Texas Hold’em Rules, once they have been dealt, before drawing the flop, you will remove the top card from the deck and set it aside. If the dealer makes the mistake of not burning a card, or burning more than one, and there has been no action, in 7 card stud the correct cards will be dealt to the players and in Poker Omaha or Texas Hold’em the correct cards will be drawn in the middle. If the dealer breaks this rule, do they expel him from the profession? No, it’s not that serious, but it’s an important part of live poker. It helps that there is no collusion between the dealer and the players. In the Five Card Poker Rules, the card is burned before the players begin to change their cards.
Show the hand
Sometimes a player’s cards are shown by accident. Once again it is the player’s responsibility to protect their cards. You have to see it like that. There are nine players at the table. Casino employees, waiters and waitresses and casino customers are hanging around the table. It is not the responsibility of the dealer to make sure that your cards are in place. If another player sees your cards, or you flip one by accident, you do not receive a new one. Now, if the dealer shows a card during the initial deal, now if they change it and the sight card becomes one of the burned cards.
Ethics at the table and courtesy with the players
There are many rules not written in live poker games. Ethics and courtesy are important in the game. For example, no disrespect to dealers is allowed. Behave with the dealers as you want them to behave with you … Do not rebuke the dealer for doing his job. If they make a mistake, help him, instead of putting them in the trap. And if that river card completes your aces poker but gives the opponent a royal straight, do not jump the table to grab him by the neck. They are doing their job and most do it quite well.
Respect to be respected
The same thing happens with your table rivals. Do not preach to them for playing badly. Poker is a game with different people and different ways of playing. So if a player misplays a hand, you will be acting worse if you start yelling at him. Now, if it is you who are being disrespected, tell the dealer, supervisor or boss. Do not enter the fight. Remember that bad behavior will not be tolerated at any time. Getting kicked out of the casino is not fun, especially when you did not start the discussion.
Take advantage of the rules
Unlike online poker, in live games there are many opportunities in which players rush the rules the most, in an unethical way, to gain advantage. An example may be hiding the highest value chips below the lowest value chips. So you do not know how much money the opponent has at the table. Another may be to hide the cards so that the rivals believe they have no cards and act out of turn. These players usually rush the rules to get information from rivals. All these tricks are being disregarded and rejected by most players. It is your duty to be respectful and courteous at the tables. Make sure you know the code of conduct of the casino and follow it to the letter.
A look at the rules of online poker
Online poker has some rules that are only used in online poker. It is possible to admonish rivals using chat. Or tell a friend the letters you are carrying. But the moderators of the online room are continuously looking for those who do not comply with the laws. And, if you see someone breaking the rules, you should immediately inform the online room.
Do not talk more
Table ethics and courtesy apply both in online poker and live poker. Just because you can not see your rival, and they can not see you, does not give you the right to be disrespected. Make sure that what you say in the chat is not frowned upon as:
- Do not make a collusion – In multiplayer boats, do not tell opponents what you have or should be thrown, even if you do not know them.
- Do not insult – Keep unpleasant comments about the family of rivals outside the chat.
- Do not “speak” of the hand in progress – Similar to not making collusion. Do not tell other players that a player looks like he’s bluffing, or that he looks like he has a good hand. Keep that information to yourself and use it when you are in a hand against them.
